Update translations after source changes
Last updated: September 8, 2026 · 2 min read
Plan for existing edits before retranslating a target catalog.
Source changes do not automatically retranslate the target. Retranslation rebuilds target page content from the source.
Follow these steps
- 1
Check source changes
EditorCatalog Translation Management
Compare source-update and last-translation dates. Distinguish source changes from incomplete/failed translation states.
- 2
Preserve target edits
EditorOpen target in editor
Review manual layout and text edits in the target. Duplicate it before retranslating if you need to retain those edits. Read the warning about what will be replaced.
- 3
Explicitly enable replacement
EditorTranslationUpdate existing catalog
Choose the same target language and enable updating the existing catalog. Review saved instructions and glossary, then start. Target settings and publication status can be retained while page content is rebuilt.
- 4
Review and republish
EditorPost-Edit and Share
After completion, resolve review/errors and preview the target pages. A completed translation does not remove the need to check the reader’s publication. Update the target publication when it is ready.

Verify the current source and target while retaining any earlier target copy you intended to keep.
