Position an image inside a mask

Last updated: September 8, 2026 · 2 min read

Move, resize, rotate or flip a photo while keeping its frame fixed.

These controls affect the image inside the mask. Finish cropping before you move or resize the whole masked object.

Follow these steps

  1. 1

    Open Crop

    PropertiesCrop

Choose Crop in the Image or Image fill section. You can also double-click the masked object or choose Crop from its context menu. The photo outside the mask appears faintly while you work; it is hidden again when you finish.

  2. 2

    Move the photo

    EditorCanvas

Drag the photo into position. The outline stays fixed while the visible part of the image changes.

  3. 3

    Adjust size and rotation

    EditorCanvas

Drag a corner handle to resize the photo proportionally, keeping the opposite corner fixed. Drag just outside a corner to rotate it. Hold Shift to snap rotation to 15-degree increments.

The toolbar percentage displays the scale. Use the corner handles to resize; the mouse wheel does not scale this photo.

  4. 4

    Flip the image if needed

    EditorRight-clickFlip horizontal

While cropping, choose Flip horizontal or Flip vertical in the context menu. These controls are also available in Properties under Transform.

The separate mirror commands create copies. They are unavailable during cropping.

  5. 5

    Apply or cancel

    EditorApply

Select the checkmark button, Apply, on the crop toolbar, or press Enter. The cross button, Cancel, or Esc restores the image as it was when this crop session began.

Apply finishes this image adjustment. It does not publish the catalog or update its published version.
