Crop and reframe an image

Follow these steps

   Enter crop mode

   PropertiesCrop image

   Click Crop image in the tool row at the top of the Properties panel. You can also double-click the photo or choose Crop from the context menu. The parts of the photo outside the frame become visible while you edit.

   Reposition the photo

   Press inside the photo and drag to position the subject. In this mode you move the photo within the box, rather than moving the box on the page.

   Scale the photo inside

   Drag a corner handle of the photo in the crop view to change its size. Reposition it afterward and check that important details remain within the frame.

   Handles outside crop mode resize the outer box. Check which mode you are using first.

   Rotate the photo inside the frame

   Move the pointer just outside a corner of the photo and, when the rotate cursor appears, press and drag. The photo turns around its own center while the frame stays in place on the page, and the angle appears above the photo in degrees. Hold Shift to change the angle in 15-degree steps.

   A rotated photo can leave blank areas in the corners of the frame, and they stay visible on purpose. To close them, enlarge the photo from a corner handle or use Fill frame proportionally in the Fitting row; both keep the angle.

   Apply or cancel

   EditorApply

   Click the checkmark below the photo or press Enter. Click the cross or press Esc to discard changes from this crop session.

   Cropping does not delete the source pixels outside the frame. Reopen crop mode to reveal another portion.

   Fit the image to the frame

   For a quick placement without cropping, use the buttons in the Fitting row: Fill frame proportionally, Fit content proportionally, Fit content to frame, Fit frame to content and Center content. With several images selected, the command applies to all of them and undoes in one step.

   Fit frame to content resizes the frame to the image proportions; the other buttons leave the frame in place and position the image inside it. With a rotated photo, Fit frame to content also turns the frame to the angle of the photo, and Fit content to frame sets the photo upright.
