Crop and reframe an image

Move and scale the photo inside its frame to choose what readers see.

Cropping changes the photo’s internal placement. Moving or resizing the outer box changes the page layout.

Follow these steps

    Enter crop mode

    Click the crop control. You can also double-click the photo or choose Crop from its right-click menu. Portions outside the frame become visible while editing.

    Reposition the photo

    Press inside the photo and drag to position the subject. In this mode you move the photo within the box, rather than moving the box on the page.

    Scale the photo inside

    Drag a corner handle of the photo in the crop view to change its size. Reposition it afterward and check that important details remain within the frame.

    Handles outside crop mode resize the outer box. Check which mode you are using first.

    Apply or cancel

    EditorApply

    Click the checkmark below the photo or press Enter. Click the cross or press Esc to discard changes from this crop session.

    Cropping does not delete the source pixels outside the frame. Reopen crop mode to reveal another portion.

    For a photo inside a shape

    Use the positioning-within-a-mask lesson for photos inside preset shapes or drawn paths. Editing the mask shape and moving its photo are separate tasks.

Result

Your image shows the intended crop, which remains editable.
