Using the command palette

Last updated: October 5, 2026 · 2 min read

Run menu and panel commands by typing their name.

The command palette brings the commands from the Edit, View and Help menus into one list, together with selection, arrange, zoom, panel and unit commands. Commands that have a shortcut show it in the palette too.

Follow these steps

  1. 1

    Open the palette

    EditorCommand Palette

Press Cmd/Ctrl+K, or choose Command Palette under Help in the profile menu at the top right. The same shortcut closes the palette.

  2. 2

    Search for a command

    EditorCommand Palette

Type part of the name into Search commands. Commands whose name starts with your word come first, followed by those that contain it. Case and accented letters do not affect the search.

  3. 3

    Run the command

    EditorCommand Palette

Choose the command with the arrow keys and press Enter, or click it. Esc closes the palette. A command that cannot run right now is dimmed and skipped.

  4. 4

    Browse the sections

    EditorCommand Palette

With the search field empty, commands are listed in sections: the menu sections, Selection, Arrange and Panels. Scroll the list to learn where a command lives and what its shortcut is.

You run the actions you use most from the keyboard, without going through the menus.
