Add and edit text

Last updated: September 8, 2026 · 3 min read

Add a heading or paragraph, draw a text area, and replace its content.

Text presets give you a starting style. Freeform Text lets you choose an area directly on the page. Start with straight text in this lesson; circular text has its own controls.

Follow these steps

  1. 1

    Insert a text preset

    EditorAdd text

Click Add text or its adjacent arrow in the block toolbar, then choose Heading, Subheading, or Paragraph. Choosing a preset inserts a block with sample content. You can also use the text preset cards in the Text section of the left library.

Opening the menu does not insert a block. Choose a preset to add it.

  2. 2

    Start from a text template

    EditorText

For a prepared arrangement of text blocks, choose a template card in the Text templates section of the left library. It inserts the template’s blocks into the current page. Edit each text block’s wording and review the layout after replacing the sample text.

  3. 3

    Draw your own text area

    EditorTextFreeform Text

Open Text in the left library and click Freeform Text. Press in an empty area of the page, drag to define the box, then release. Sample text appears and editing begins. A single click instead creates a box at the default size.

A dragged box starts with a fixed height. Check that longer content fits. After creating a box the tool returns to selection mode; select Freeform Text again to draw another.

  4. 4

    Replace the sample content

    EditorCanvas

Double-click inside a text preset. When the text cursor appears, drag across the words you want to replace and type. With the cursor inside the text, use Command+A on macOS or Ctrl+A on Windows to select all its content and replace it.

Selecting a block and editing its text are different states. Check that the text cursor is inside the block before using Select All.

  5. 5

    Paste text

    EditorCanvas

Place the cursor where you want to insert text, or select the words to replace. Paste with Command+V / Ctrl+V. Clipboard content is inserted as plain text: fonts, colors, and other formatting from the source document are not carried over. Format the text in the editor.

  6. 6

    Finish editing

    EditorCanvas

Press Esc or Command+Enter / Ctrl+Enter. You can also click an empty part of the page outside the text. Your changes are kept. You can then select the block to move or resize it.

Esc does not discard your typing. Clicking Properties or the text controls keeps text editing active so you can continue formatting.

Result

Your page now contains a text block with your own content. Double-click inside it whenever you need to edit the wording again.

Troubleshooting

I cannot type inside the block
If you only see the selection outline, double-click inside the text. Unlock the block first if it is locked.
Pasted text looks different
Pasting does not import formatting from the source. Select the text and use the editor’s formatting controls to set its appearance.
