Import an InDesign document

Bring your InDesign design into Creavim pages with its images, QR codes and fonts.

The InDesign package folder gives the best result: images arrive with their framing, SVG, TIFF, PSD, EPS, AI and PDF included. Check the result page by page for fonts and InDesign details that are not supported.

Follow these steps

    Prepare the package

    In InDesign use File > Package to copy links and fonts, and turn on "Include IDML". The folder then holds the IDML file, a Links folder and a Document fonts folder. You can also upload the IDML alone; linked images then arrive as placeholders.

    Choose the package folder

    Choose the folder or drop it on the window. The summary shows the images found, the TIFF, PSD, EPS, AI and PDF files converted to a web format on the server, images missing from the folder, QR codes and the fonts in the package. Images are uploaded at 300 ppi of their placed size; SVG files arrive as vectors, unchanged. An SVG that carries scripts or event attributes is not uploaded for security and arrives as a placeholder.

    Confirm the font licence

    If you hold a licence to use the package fonts on the web and in digital publications, tick the box; the fonts are added to the catalogue’s Brand Kit and the text shows in the same font. Without your confirmation the fonts are not uploaded.

    Import

    The IDML uploads first, then the images; you can cancel at this stage, do not close the tab. The server then prepares the catalogue and the editor opens.

    Link missing images

    Images that were not in the folder arrive as placeholders showing their file name. Select the block and choose the file with "Link image" in the right panel; every image waiting for the same file is updated together. For several missing images, "Link missing files from a folder" matches them by name.

    Check warnings, text and masters

    Read the import warnings; compare headings, line breaks, overflows and master items with the source. Images in elliptical or shaped frames arrive as rectangles; use a mask if needed. Fine tracking, footnotes and automatic hyphenation may differ.

    Complete interaction and accessibility

    Set up the button and media actions you need in Creavim. Complete image descriptions, text roles and reading order. A finished import does not mean the publication review is finished.

Result

Compare the pages with the source and save your fixes. If Retry is offered, continue from the failed job; images already uploaded are reused.
