Reshape a mask
Last updated: September 8, 2026 · 2 min read
Change the frame size or edit its path points while keeping the photo.
Ready-made shapes and pen paths use different controls. Crop adjusts the photo; Edit path changes the drawing that frames it.
Follow these steps
- 1
Resize the whole mask
EditorCanvas
Use the object’s selection frame. Proportional resizing from a corner scales the photo together with the frame. Use a side handle to change the frame’s width or height.
After placing a photo freely with Crop, dragging a side handle keeps the photo in place on the page. A photo still using its initial automatic placement may refit to the frame. Check the visible area after resizing.
- 2
Adjust a ready-made shape
PropertiesShape
Use the corner, side or other shape controls available for the selected shape. The available settings depend on the shape type. The image is shown within the updated boundary.
- 3
Edit a pen path’s points
PropertiesEdit path
For a pen drawing, choose Edit path. Drag points to change the outline and curve handles to change its curvature.
To edit a ready-made shape by its points, right-click and choose Convert shape to path. When starting a new design, convert before adding the photo so you can establish the frame first.
- 4
Finish and check the image
PropertiesDone
Select Done to leave point editing. If the new shape hides the subject, open Crop and adjust the photo. Use the editor’s Undo command to reverse an unwanted shape change.
Controls and behavior
A reference for the controls used in this lesson.
| Control | Where | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| Edit path | Properties | Reveals the drawing’s points and curve handles. |
| Done | Properties | Leaves point editing. |
| Convert shape to path | Editor | Turns a ready-made shape into a path with editable points. |
| Crop | Properties | Edits the image placement rather than the drawing points. |
Result
You can review the new frame outline and adjust the image placement independently.
Troubleshooting
- Double-clicking does not open the points
- An image-filled object opens Crop on double-click. Use Properties → Edit path for the drawing points.
- Edit path is missing
- You may have selected a ready-made shape. Use its shape controls or convert it to a path. If you convert a shape that already contains a photo, recheck the photo’s angle and flips.
